I found dis birdy whilst stalking some flowers in the garden. It was sleeping standing up just like that in the middle of the step So I took some pictures and it woke up and started posing Then it flew away The End.
I work with animals, I've had many birds in my life, and...uh..
Most likely this bird was sick.
Birds tend to fluff up like this and sleep on the ground, exposed like this, when they're sick. Now, I wasn't there, I can't say for sure...but it's likely...even if he did fly away. Birds try to not show that they are sick as it is a weakness and makes them more vulnerable to predators...even when you keep a bird as a pet, you have to look for these signs because they might look like they're still eating and active. It's so hard, sometimes, to tell when to take a pet bird in...anyways, I don't mean to be a killjoy, but I just wanted to clarify...
He flew around the garden a fair bit the next day, and the day after that - in fact he was in the garden area for about 3 weeks He has a very distinctive mark on his wing, and we were able to identify him each time. I think he was fine
Oh, thank God! That would have put a bad taste in my mouth for this pic. I'm glad to be wrong on this one. I've seen the bird that look and act like that that don't even last a day, but there's also birds like my own cockatiel who looked like that for weeks before I adopted her (which I was scared to do since she looked sick). I adopted her 8 years ago and I still have her.
It's always hard to tell when there is actually something wrong with her, though...but she is such a fighter.
Oh, dear, how to say this...
