Calling All Artists!

Wed Jun 26, 2013, 2:00 PM

We want YOU! The 22nd July 2013 sees the launch of a brand new WEEK! Not just any week... The Artists Toolbox is coming to projecteducate and in fact, if the uptake on this is good we'll be stretching it across a whole fortnight! So how can you get involved? We're looking for deviants that have knowledge of various tools that they might use to create art. So whether that's paints, editing software, programs, cameras, accessories and so on - we're looking for you to share what you know! All you need to do is comment on this journal with a brief overview of what you want to write, and we'll be in touch to take it from there!

:bulletblack: Know how to use sta.sh and be able to install the PE journal skin (we'll provide it!)
:bulletblack: Become a contributor for the fortnight at Project Educate with the opportunity to stay on for future Community Weeks!
:bulletblack: Be able to submit at an allocated time or use scheduled submit in sta.sh during July 22nd to August 4th!
:bulletblack: Have basic HTML skills

Um, do you still need/want artists? If so, I could write a tutorial on french beading. :)

I might be able to concentrate on detailed portrait retouching from start to finish in photoshop if no one has offered to do so and if you think it goes well with the Artists Toolbox :) Maybe create a speed-retouching video (on a photo that was voted/chosen by people perhaps) to go along with the article :)

That would be really good! It starts week of 22nd July, is that enough time? It could also cross post with #CRPhotography :)

I'm going to write the article for #CRPhotography early July (maybe submit it in the first week or second), and after that I'll work on this one :)
I'll send you a note as soon as I sketch a plan for it! :iconcuteeagerplz:

Does this include traditional media, such as oil paint, sculpting in stone, wood, clay, etc.? And perhaps it would be useful to have regular Advice Columns, where deviants could write in for advice on whatever media that column was covering. :)

!! I would love to write an advice column/s on painting and sculpting. Not only does it help those asking questions, columns attract people who can add some good advice of their own. It can become very interactive! :D

Perhaps writing an article for this week beginning 22nd July on Sculpting and Painting tools would be a good start, and then develop the column from there? :)

That would be great. So, you would like an article that would be posted the 22nd of July? Perhaps to start I could give an overview of the some of the many categories and see where most people's interests lie and go in that direction. Tools, methods, materials, resources, inspirations, approach to subject matter, how to live in this world as an artist, how to contribute to this world as an artist, connecting the practical with the inspirational.(?) And if there are following articles, I could get very specific. :D Does this sound okay?

- I know how to use photoshop to correct pictures, manipulate pictures and paint digital art with my tablet.
- I also use gumpaste to do cake decorations, like roses, bride and groom and small animals.

If I can be of any use, I'll be glad to help :)

Okay, after sleeping on it, I got the overwhelming urge to write about brushes. My main idea would be a sort of a "beginner's guide" to choosing brushes: general info about sizes, hair varieties, shapes. Appropriate?

Other things I've thought about:
- an introduction to water-soluble media (watercolour, chalks, oil paints, pencils...)
- coloured pencil techniques and (basic) accessories
- linocutting / printmaking at home.

Of course, I'd need someone to retro-fit the PE skin, but if that's possible and one of these ideas would work, I'd be very much into writing!

I definitely want to help out!!
Here are some topics i might can talk about...I dont know what's already covered: (the one that is starred is my favorite)

Using household items in art - wine bottles, old cds, etc...

Photoshop for artwork - more like tutorials on something like doing hair or special effects...

Traditional Art - How to make your colored pencil work pop with markers (a technique I use) :star: I star this one because i see a LOT of colored pencil work that looks faded and barely seen so i think it would really help out.

I also have other tools like sketchbook pro, SAI, dreamweaver, toon boom studio... etc...

I might be able to do something photography related if the others here haven't already signed up for it.. or perhaps tools used to help you with making chainmaille (artisan crafts).

Or, actually, tools with origami.. though there aren't many 'tools', as such.. just different kinds of paper, etc.

I would love to help out - I can help with YouTube Tutorials if theres a need.

Also I'd like to suggest to ProjectEducate - that you start planning a Nelson Mandela tribute and projecteducate piece soon. Collect all the relevant artwork showcasing various stages of his life on dA and plan a feature around it. Sorry but this is an immediate thing you guys need to do. Before you plan anything else. He is a great cultural icon and his passing will be very sad. Also in terms of art, dA has the opportunity to add a landmark art collection to this icon - that will be used  for many years to come.

I would like to write about shading and highlighting techniques in GIMP, though I know the methods I use can also be used in Photoshop and Paint Tool Sai. I'm able to use sta.sh, and install journal skins, I should have enough room to be another contributor, and I have enough editing skills to embed images and arrange text. Judging from the other articles that is what I would need :aww:.

i am done with the article but i don't have internet connection yet on my own computer, and i can probably send it this weekend. is that ok?

i would also like to ask if it has to be a specific tutorial like "using powerpoint to create an anime chibi" plus an example picture, or can it be general details on the different features of powerpoint and how they can be used for art?

i hope i can still submit the article although it is a bit late.

Hiya!
Sounds good - if you can't submit the article this time around, it might be better suited to a community week with Project Educate. Going by your topic it sounds like it might! But that's okay, it gives you more time. :) Just shoot me a note when ready and we can discuss! :)
