There's a saying, I heard it first in German but the English translation makes perfect sense too.

~"How soon "Not Now" becomes "Never"

With a New Year, there comes many a chance for people to start again, to recreate themselves, to reinvent, to begin new love, to end old ones, to find new people, new purposes...new pathways. So many of us vow to become better people. We use the end of 365 days, and the beginning of 365 more, as a platform from which to launch ourselves with renewed purpose. But what about the simple things? "How soon "Not Now" becomes "Never"" stuck a chord with me. It's so very true. Whether we tell a child, "Not Now" or we tell a partner, "Not Now" - or we utter to a parent, "I'll do it later" or even a friend. How very quickly, something that we carelessly respond "Not Now" to, becomes something that is never done, achieved or even thought about. Oh it's not every single time. But it happens a lot.

Instead of a resolution to go to the gym more, to lose more weight, to do more adventurous things, to be more organised, or to be more active in online communities - mine is to dish out a lot less Not Nows and a lot more firm Yes or No's. The other things are things that I want to do, but that if I resolve to do them and then don't quite meet the bar, I will feel disappointed. Besides, since I'm resolving to say a lot less not nows, the above things that also need to be done this year, will have to get done. My new years resolution dicates it! This year I will...

:bulletblack: Put my lens caps on my cameras more often
:bulletblack: Find my lens caps so that I can put them on my cameras more often
:bulletblack: Shoot the elusive King Fisher (with my camera and not a gun)
:bulletblack: Wear pink woolen socks more because they look awesome
:bulletblack: Enjoy getting up at 5:30am to go to the gym (I don't think this will happen until the provide chocolate on entry but we'll see)
:bulletblack: Drive more sensibly
:bulletblack: Stop closing my eyes when driving over bridges (Also ties in with the above one)
:bulletblack: Play with the dog more
:bulletblack: Put all of my things on higher shelves so the dog doesn't eat them
:bulletblack: Cook more
:bulletblack: Eat less!
