1) Firstly, tells us a bit about yourself and how you find yourself undertaking Photography...

My name is Elisabeth (but I prefer to be called Liz). I'm 24 and live in France near Paris. I fell in love with Photography when I was 16 (so really 8 years ago :o). That year was a bad year for me, I couldn't go to school anymore so I had to keep myself busy. I found my dad's camera, a little compact one. I started taking pictures of everything, I absolutely fell in love. After that, I focused on nature and objects, not for the objects themselves but to show my view of the world. About me and the Photography...I'm glad to tell you that after so many years I decided to become a professional photographer. But! Not in nature Photography or still life - but focusing on Weddings.

2) Could you tell us a bit about your style as a Photographer and what led you to undertaking Still Life Photography in particular?

I don't know if I have a "style". I love objects, I love nature, so I couldn't stay without photographing it. I guess nothing special led me to do still photography, it came alone, it was obvious for me. My favorite subject is obviously the bottles and more generally everything which could refer to the world of magic. (Objects in nature, books etc.)

3) What equipment do you use in particular to capture still life Photography and what would you recommend to somebody starting out?

My equipment is as follows:
:bulletblack: Camera body - My faithful Canon EOD 7D
:bulletblack: Lens - My sweet 50mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/1.8, but sometimes I like to use my macro lens (The 100mm f/2.8)...especially when I do a diptych.
:bulletblack: Tripod - I'm not a tripod addict, I like to be able to move freely arround my subject. But when I really need one, due to a lack of light I use a little Manfrotto tripod, nothing extraordinary.
:bulletblack: Camera bag - I'm using it to stock and to protect my stuff when I go out. I don't remember the name of the manufacturer, anyway, I think I'll have to change it soon, It's becoming too small.
:bulletblack: Reflector: Can be very very good to smooth bad shadows. For now, I use aluminium paper or a white sheet, it works pretty nice.
:bulletblack: Lighting box: It gives you a studio-like effect. I made myself one with a cardboard and tracing paper. You can find some amazing tutorials on the web.

"I'd tell them what I say to everybody who starts out with photography: observe, observe and observe again. Turn around the subject, and try. The advantage with still life photography is the subject: it doesn't move, it doesn't complain, so take your time."

4) What are the challenges of undertaking Still Life Photography?

I want to show the world as I see it, to share my feelings, my memories. I like when people see my picture and write some lines to tell their story, what they remembered when they saw my picture.

5) Do you find there are some subjects trickier than others to capture?

You've hit the target with that question. There is no way for me, I can't take pictures of food! I can't make it appetizing, it's horrible :XD: Except that, I have no problem with the objects :)

6) Are there any photographers on deviantART that you believe have inspiring still life photography works within their gallery?

Of course there are! I won't speak about them all, but I have a preference for BeKaphoto who makes some AMAZING food pictures :D and Somebody--else who takes beautiful pictures of objects, just my kind of work.

7) Would you recommend any groups on deviantART that help promote still life photography?

LaVieDeBoheme has great still life photographs, but I don't know any group which promote still life photography (I'm open to offers ;))

8) If you could work alongside another artist, dead or alive, Photographer or otherwise - who would it be?

Maybe Tolkien or Peter Jackson (I can dream :p)

9) Is there a piece of advice that you know now, which you didn't know when you started photography?

Yeah, the most important one for me now. It's to make my art for ME and not (only) in the goal that other like it.

10) Who are your influences, Photographic or otherwise?

My influences are every piece of art I can see, bad or good, I like or not. Of course, I'm most influenced by all the things which are about magic, fairies, fantasy. I'm also fascinated by asian life style.
