Every so often (and for many of us it feels like everyday sometimes!) we fall into a creative slump. It's not a place that the bubbliest most inspiring of people can rise us from. It's a horrible place, where you feel like you'll never be able to recoup that creativity again. But then something changes and you climb back out, you keep drawing, or fractal-ing or taking photographs and you're happy again.
It's funny how when we're creatively over flowing and positively genius's we rarely look back and remember the time when we couldn't envisage being artistic ever again. But equally when we're down and grasping at straws to try and pull ourselves out - we forget the achievements we've made, the times we succeeded. Perhaps it's time to remember both feelings - one extreme to another - maybe that will provide the little lift or equally the littl

Lots of people quote the above at me when I start to moan that I've taken a billion photographs on a specific day and none of them turned out to be worth anything. The truth is you might take a thousand or you might take 4 photographs before you unearth something that's recognized, liked and respected. It doesn't matter either way because you're creating first and foremost for yourself. When you start to take money for your hobby is when you need to look at technique, skills and actual finished product to ensure that you are meeting the sort of quality criteria needed. So whilst the quote is a famous thought - provoking one - it isn't necessarily true!

Two editions of What Digital Camera appeared today and I'm pretty glad they did because I flicked through and immediately landed on a link for a free online Photography magazine. You can open it up yourself Right Here and I haven't tested but I believe it works in all countries. The reason I'm sharing it is because they have a nifty forum where you can share your own photography with the chance of them picking it to publish either in the online magazine or the 'real' shop versions. This week the general theme of the article is Infrared Photography. You may know it well for its vision into a dream like world where the trees appear to be fluffy candyfloss and the grass is blue or Orange...Infrared is not as far away from achievable as you might think. Sometimes it's easy to forget the things around us that were once iconic and useful. In everyday life that could include a multitude of household objects, bits and bobs, clothes, gadgets - all sorts. But in Photography - a specific aspect of Photography - people close doors and board up buildings sometimes with little or no notice. They erect a fence around that old asylum and ship everything out or they install security guards at the boundaries of an army camp. Noticeably in the past few weeks, more and more people seem to be speaking up and making noise at the fact that aren't making money from their photography. There's no doubt about it - Photography starts out as a hobby. You don't one day pick up a camera and decide that you are going to be a pro and get given your first paycheck. It's one of those unique hobbies where you get a gentle introduction around age 10 with your first proper camera (haha) and the rest is History. Whatever you make it really. You can't say that about most professions.
Putting yourself out there is something I've been trying to hammer home the past week, you'll have noticed my ramble if you read last weeks edition of Photography weekly. Getting paid for it is another matter. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices. Sometimes, you might not get paid for what you do.

There are plenty here on deviantART to help you enhance your work in the most intriguing of ways. I had an experiment this week and found that the results were just amazing. This week Horacio Coppola died. Many will not know the name, but in the Photography world he was pretty awesome. He died age 105, and was famous for taking Black and White photographs of Buenos Aires in the 1930s. But he also photographed normality. Some of his works included egg and twine - quite simply an egg and a piece of twine. Others featured a typewriter, but ultimately he shot normality, the everyday things that people overlooked. He's said to be one of very few photographers who manage to capture the romance, vitality and squalor of a great city. So a legend has died, but somewhere another will rise up through the ranks. Who inspires you? Which historical Artists have provoked you to reach the place where you are now? Or who you aspire to be?

In the UK Spring is most definitely here. And with it comes a plethora of Photo-graphical opportunities. Whilst there are the flowers, trees and in particular blossoms coming into bloom there are also the youngsters. Baby Animals! Birds beginning to nest and in general it seems - an influx of human babies too! There is no shortage of opportunities to take a photo at this time of year here and there are some useful tips to get you out and about making the most of the season...
Use sunrises and sunsets - the lightest part of the day at lunchtime and the dusky evenings to capture spring landscapes at their best. Utilize the foggy mornings with sun streaming through too! Research carried out by Nikon has estimated that an amazing 332 million jubilee related photos will be taken on the day of the Thamas River Pageant on June 3rd. That's amazing. It even tops the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton last year. The upcoming Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth has sparked patriotism in the most unlikely places meaning that driving down a normal street turns into an epic photo opportunity with the various bunting, flags and other bits and pieces. I recently blogged about Joe McNally and his book The Moment It Clicks. I've not yet read it but it's on my Birthday list for April. However I have read some of the quotes from inside the book - one in particular is the 'pause for thought' for this article this week. As some of you might know I'm taking part in the 365 day Photography Challenge and I would thoroughly recommend it to anybody who wishes to think outside the box and get more creative with their photography. How many times do we ignore, trample or loose the real one in a million shot because we're aiming for that one shot that we think we want? To extend the thought further...I often neglect to shoot something interesting because I think in the minds of my watchers and followers and decide that they won't appreciate it. *Fuzzypiggy reminded me of this earlier today when he posted a journal about photographing mannequins in the shop windows. Things that people overlook everyday. But more importantly he then crossed the 'line' (self declared crossing!) and mentioned a globule of spit that looked so huge and shiny he could have just taken a picture... Maybe that's too far...who knows! But what we really need to do is stop living up to the expectations of others and start creating for ourselves.

Spotlight Artist *Art2mys

In spotlighting *Art2mys it's difficult to avoid spotlighting another epic artist for in the words of `DpressedSoul "I did a bit of research on the occasion of Warhol's 25th obit and found this piece as one of the very few that really do him justice."

*Art2mys is fast becoming another master of double exposure akin to Warhol and his amazing surrealist conceptual works. Browsing his gallery you'll find a mix of eclectic Abstract's and intriguing surrealism. If you doubted the definitions of both art genres before you'll certainly be much clearer after a visit because he defines each clearly through his work.
