I read a very interesting article this week debating Photography Vs Literature and which one of the two tells us more. Of course there is always the element that a picture could be accompanied by words but neither aspect is enough to tell a whole story. But as the article says, Photography has become a universal constant in the world today and is accessible to nearly everybody. Yet many still believe that only pure narration can truly tell a story. What are your thoughts? As Photographers we can choose to limit what we tell or show with a photograph, we can even mislead. Can we convey more with words? Or more with an image? You could describe a person with words but never truly give an accurate picture of who they are visually without a photograph...

I don't know about you, but Light Painting has to be really unique and awesome in order to impress me. So when I stumbled across the work of Darren Pearson aka Darren Twin - I was astounded at the creativity and simple methods used to create his conceptual photographic pieces. Darren creates LED pictures of Skeletons Skateboarding, dancing and living - exploring what the Mail Online has termed as the bare bones of our daily lives. And it really is precisely that. Darren takes the ordinary, the mundane and the normal of everyday life and lights it up by night by painting bones. Check it out for yourself. Weather Photography has always fascinated me - the weather in general does anyway, but capturing those changes, shifts in atmosphere and so on have always had me in awe. However when browsing the latest news within popular photography early this week I was stunned by an image that NASA had captured of hurricane Isaac as it lurked over the USA. I've been in a hurricane before, but it never felt as organised or precise as this image shows. This shows a smooth beautiful cloud formation. When below it's likely wreaking havoc and destroying lives. It's difficult to match the two together and contemplate them as the same thing. I recently spent some time (okay maybe hours!) exploring a photographic exhibition on the Isle of Wight - England. I had known that the exhibition existed for some years, but had never really ventured over there. It was held in the home and studio of a celebrated Victorian Photography - Julia Margaret Cameron. However it did include a nice variety of works - photographs from Dorothy Bohm who put together the book A world observed and a collection of shots taken at the famed 1970s Isle of Wight Pop Festival. It included images of Jimi Hendrix who performed at the festival just three weeks before his death. The images collated and exhibited were fascinating. But what really struck me was how far we had come in terms of camera equipment.

One of the more recent articles on the topic of photography explores how an instagram photograph taken during Hurricane Sandy has been selected to be used on the cover of Time Magazine. Perhaps quite fittingly, the title accompanying the image on the front page is Lessons from the storm. Whilst many have learned a lot from Hurricane Sandy and many more are working on rebuilding their lives, one of the biggest lessons for photographers and the world of media could well be that iphone Photographers can be photo-journalists too. We've covered the topic of equipment, capabilities and qualifications many a time before now in Photography Weekly - but what are your thoughts on this article?

Basking in the glory of finally getting recognised for your hard efforts and photographic skill is pretty awesome and at the start of this week I took the opportunity to enjoy *Fuzzypiggy's after he got published in a UK Photography Magazine. It's really nice when something like that happens and the knowledge that across the country - and because of deviantART and other networks - across the world, people are looking at your work. And if you're me, smiling! I once stumbled across *lauren-rabbit's work in Black and White Photography Magazine and was truly proud that somebody I had found here on deviantART was here in my mag! So have you been published? Has your work received any recognition that makes you proud? What are your tips to getting out there and having your work showcased?

In the news this week there has been a spotlight on Karren Brady, a photographer who has won a copyright ruling. The news article itself is interesting but the cautions that it turfs up for the future and current generations of photographers are slightly more concerning. The general feeling that has started to develop is that if you have assistance with setting up a shot, making a scene, posing a model and making up a person for example, those people may well have rights to your work. I'm loving jars this month. I'm not sure why, other than the fact that I saw some set up at a craft fair that I had a table at, and I just fell in love with them. A couple of large jars with some fairy lights nestled in them - the effect was immense. It was so simple too! Sadly the people weren't actually selling the lights, but once I'd made a little profit on my sales, I went over clutching my ten pound note and picked out a few. So I was delighted to see that on Flipboard today, there was an article exploring 19 great photos of jars. If you're stuck for inspiration, grab a jam jar (take the jam out first maybe) and start shooting. Shoot things through them, around them, in them - get creative! Jars are awesome.

I was fascinated this week by an article about the Photographer who survived a year only on Penguin Steaks. When I read further I was enlightened about an exhibition to the Antarctic that I had never before heard of. In 1914, Sir Shakleton along with 27 men, 69 dogs and a cat sailed from Buenos Aires to Antarctica. They wanted to be the first to cross the Antarctic Continent on foot. However their boat became trapped and they lived on the ship for 10 months. Some of the photographs captured of those moments are wonderful - timeless creations of moments when all you really have to keep yourself occupied with, is thinking and existing. It's creation, creativity, capturing, preserving - but it's Art. I'd be interested to see who agrees with this and who would say no to the Guardian's question - and why. As the year crawls into the final quarter - lots of challenges and daily photo tasks and so on begin to conclude. I have personally been challenging myself with the 365 Photography challenge - a photo a day for a whole year. It has been tricky to say the least, especially as I set myself a high standard of capturing more than one Photo a day - but also rewarding. Setting yourself a challenge, whether it's following the 52 week photography challenges that are out there, or doing a themed challenge such as 365 breakfasts - is a great way of expanding on your portfolio. Whilst it sometimes means that you struggle to find anything interesting to photograph or share, on the days that you do, you're one step closer to building another aspect of your portfolio.

Next week in Photography Troubleshooting - we will be looking at Money Matters and some of the simplest, cheapest ways in which you can put yourself out there and earn money for your photography. Undertaking something such as the 365 photography challenge is a huge part of that whether it helps you make money or get your name around. On day two of the challenge, back in January, I sold some photos to a local newspaper for an article. Photos I had taken because I was taking a photo a day. I can definitely say that if I had not been doing this challenge, my camera would likely be picked up once or twice a week at the most. Check out the Famous Landmarks Feature from ^krazykel - Stonehenge is featured this week - one of my favourite places especially for Photography! And finally, last but not least People and Portraits Exposed is up and showcases some of the up and coming portrait photographers this week.

Celebrating Diversity is a fantastic new series of articles that have emerged from the genius of ^pica-ae. It's well worth checking out the diverse arts and artists and keeping an eye out for future articles as a lot of the CV team have signed up to write one! Did You Know is alive once more thanks to $namenotrequired head over and check out what you do and don't know! This week saw a lot of farewells to members of the team including `Hyazintha and `Cymae. But it also saw the welcome of lots of new faces including ^neurotype and ^NicSwaner for literature, ^PirateLotus-Stock for stock and resources and ^SaTaNiA for fractal! ^Thiefoworld came back along with `ChewedKandi!!

However I urge you to do it every now and again if you can. It really helps with focus and new ideas. Phaidon's photobooks - both 1 & 2 are well worth a read for a guide to creating your OWN book of photography.

A 365 challenge is something I do want to tackle eventually. However, even thinking outside the box, I doubt my little dorm room could provide much content. XD I began a 52 week challenge on my birthday this year, however. So far, I've been successful, but I need to be a little more daring in the perspectives department. (Don't tell me to be daring on locations, I already jumped past a downed electric fence once this year!)

Now I'm interested in a 365 photo challenge. I think I tried it once, but gave up after a month or so because I couldn't find anything to take a photo of, and school kept me occupied. When you did it, did you actively go to events, or just take photos of everyday life?

It's a challenge that's for sure, the first few weeks I went out into the countryside and did shots. Then it rained.

I learnt that there is a huge range of shots inside the house. Toast, tea, coffee, fruit, vegetables, dinner dishes, spices and so on. Then there are all the things in the garden, textures, leaves, grass, flowers - then the flowers die, leaves change, colours change so it's all new all over again and so on. I do attend events, but out of 260 odd days so far, I've probably had 15 - 20 properly planned things like a baby shoot, people, events e.t.c

It's doable, you've just got to think outside of the box

I was going to do a 365 project but didn't feel I'd be able to make myself and would then become stressed out. (Because I get stressed out when I feel like I've been letting things go/not finishing things/etc.) haha But I'd like to try that, actually. I suppose it wouldn't matter if I started at the beginning of the year or right now, huh? PS What exactly is the challenge? I was following yours somewhat over on your blog but not sure if the days have themes or what?

Great issue as usual! And I can't wait for Money Matters because that's something I could really use some tips with!! Keep up the AMAZING work!!!
