This week I spied an awesome topic in *Fuzzypiggy's journal and knew instantly that it was what I would talk about for edition twenty eight. I'm quite late hopping on the discussion wagon with this one since `fritsvandersloot tells me the article has been trending for some time now. This week Horacio Coppola died. Many will not know the name, but in the Photography world he was pretty awesome. He died age 105, and was famous for taking Black and White photographs of Buenos Aires in the 1930s. But he also photographed normality. Some of his works included egg and twine - quite simply an egg and a piece of twine. Others featured a typewriter, but ultimately he shot normality, the everyday things that people overlooked. He's said to be one of very few photographers who manage to capture the romance, vitality and squalor of a great city. So a legend has died, but somewhere another will rise up through the ranks. Who inspires you? Which historical Artists have provoked you to reach the place where you are now? Or who you aspire to be?

I recently spent some time (okay maybe hours!) exploring a photographic exhibition on the Isle of Wight - England. I had known that the exhibition existed for some years, but had never really ventured over there. It was held in the home and studio of a celebrated Victorian Photography - Julia Margaret Cameron. However it did include a nice variety of works - photographs from Dorothy Bohm who put together the book A world observed and a collection of shots taken at the famed 1970s Isle of Wight Pop Festival. It included images of Jimi Hendrix who performed at the festival just three weeks before his death. The images collated and exhibited were fascinating. But what really struck me was how far we had come in terms of camera equipment.

In the news this week there has been a spotlight on Karren Brady, a photographer who has won a copyright ruling. The news article itself is interesting but the cautions that it turfs up for the future and current generations of photographers are slightly more concerning. The general feeling that has started to develop is that if you have assistance with setting up a shot, making a scene, posing a model and making up a person for example, those people may well have rights to your work. This week I happened across a Photographer who shoots the economy - currently in the UK. If you ever wondered what Economy looks like - and what the recession looks like - in the Photographic sense then wonder no more. Simon Robert's has it captured. What really struck me though, aside from the complete normality and sometimes mundane life that made the photographs, was the comments on the Article that I read about Simon. The BBC Wrote about him yesterday and nearly all the comments were from people advocating boredom. The Irony is that Simon Robert's had, in full colour, photographed our lives. And the general consensus was that it was dull and unimaginative. How very English we are.

The sky is so often underestimated in terms of Photography that I felt compelled to give it a bit of love and talk about it in this weeks article. I've been following UK Storm Chasers on facebook who have been documenting the arrival of the 'demon child of Nadine' as it has been deemed. Hurricane Nadine is still out there in the Atlantic Ocean spinning around and preparing to send the UK another demon child (which is really just a tropical storm to us) and with it comes a plethora of opportunities to snap some stunning skies and horizons. I read a very interesting article this week debating Photography Vs Literature and which one of the two tells us more. Of course there is always the element that a picture could be accompanied by words but neither aspect is enough to tell a whole story. But as the article says, Photography has become a universal constant in the world today and is accessible to nearly everybody. Yet many still believe that only pure narration can truly tell a story. What are your thoughts? As Photographers we can choose to limit what we tell or show with a photograph, we can even mislead. Can we convey more with words? Or more with an image? You could describe a person with words but never truly give an accurate picture of who they are visually without a photograph...

Lilly McElroy throws herself at men in the name of Photography. That is quite literally, what she does. And when I stumbled across the article this week I was tickled to read more into her project and the profoundness behind it all. Lilly initially started out on Craigslist, trying to find men to throw herself at but unfortunately she didn't get much response. In the end she went public, approaching men in pubs and clubs to try and recreate that social situation where so many throw themselves at strangers with such ease (and often with not much grace).

Research carried out by Nikon has estimated that an amazing 332 million jubilee related photos will be taken on the day of the Thamas River Pageant on June 3rd. That's amazing. It even tops the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton last year. The upcoming Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth has sparked patriotism in the most unlikely places meaning that driving down a normal street turns into an epic photo opportunity with the various bunting, flags and other bits and pieces. Since getting my first D-SLR, three years ago now, I have never been completely comfortable with the methods I use to transport it. With the camera came a bag, typical camera bag, over the shoulder type. But it's still not quite right. There are a wide range of camera bags out there now. Including one from deviantART - the dA Pro Camera Bag, but nothing has ever been quite what I need. The three common types of carrying a camera bag seem to be across the body, two straps on the back or even a belt. What do you use?

This week the general thoughts come from =Eitvys200 who brought up the topic of Too many cameras around?! It's one that baffles many from amateur to professional in deciding what we, as artists, want to use as our tools. Hopefully one of our community volunteers will cover that in greater depth next week in an article all about choosing your next or even first camera. But for now the confusion comes when you're lining up to take a shot and somebody next to you with a mobile/cell phone is taking the same one and truth be told - it might even turn out better. I broached the subject a while ago of standing at a wedding and being the 'pro' but not the only one with a £500 camera. How do you make yourself unique in a digital world that's fast developing beyond our means and capabilities? Well, you work with what you've got, first and foremost. What's your camera? What brands do you go for or steer clear of?
