Project Educate: Being a People PersonSo you've got the equipment, you've got the top notch camera, the lighting, the studio, the backdrop and even the perfect weather - everything you need for a portrait photography shoot right? Wrong. The key behind all photographs that contain a living and breathing subject is to have the natural look. Just like the key to a conceptual shot is having the idea, the key to portraiture photography is having the eye. Co-operative subjects help too!
I have especially found in the past, that people develop a pained and strained look on their face when the camera is pointed in their direction. Interestingly enough, it happens more often at Weddings. The bride and groom quite often develop the look that they might have when they've just finished writing out the cheque for me to photograph their big day...
Then, quite suddenly one day, I got it. It was when a stunning bridesmaid at a wedding lifted her hands in front of her face and squealed when I clicked the camera in her

Photography Troubleshooting: Dull Images on dA?After a long pause in which nobody seemed to have very many questions, we've got a very intriguing one which came up during the People & Portraits %projecteducate week and it's something that has always played on my mind, and no doubt on yours too. Once again `sine-out has provided a fantastic answer, so hopefully that will help somewhat in clearing this issue up. Have a question? Drop it on this article and we'll work on an answer!

they have been uploaded on deviantART... the color is more dead.. not so
alive..is this an issue?" ~ =kayjensen
"Hi =kayjensen, the issue your describing is most likely a colour profile issue. Colour profiles essentially describe how each colour is represented and there are different profiles for different purpose but mostly for getting accurate colour out of a printer or a screen.

People + Portraits Photography: Body Art RecapWithin the People and Portraits Photography Gallery there are various galleries that have their own Community Volunteer and go to person for Daily Deviation suggestions and so on. Body Art has its own niche within the People & Portraits Gallery and this has been the case since 2010. ^Exillior explains the changes more fully in this journal.
The Photography Body Art Gallery is for Photographers who would like to showcase the Body Art that has been executed by somebody else. If you've created the Body Art or you have the permission to post the creation of somebody else's Body Art then you need to submit it to Traditional Art -> Body Art. Check out `JZino's latest Daily Deviations Roundup for more information on her Daily Deviation suggestion guidelines. Below is a recap of useful Body Art Blogs and Features
Famous Photographs: The Afghan GirlIf you run a google search on what are the top famous Photographs of all time, The Afghan Girl is sure to appear. She is truly a face from History and one that many across the globe have tried to capture within others time and time again. But what exactly has made this image and its photographer so captivating?
Source: Daily Mail/National Geographic/Steve McCurry
Eyes, they say, are the window to the soul. And capturing such a piercing and expressive look in a photograph is a highly sought after skill. The Afghan Girl exhibits suspense, suspicion and a sense of distrust at the person behind the lens, she gives off an air of maturity, a foreboding feeling - a vulnerability behind years of strength. That, is what makes her so captivating.
Sharbat Gula is her name, although few even know this rather important detail. Sh

DeviantART'S 12th Birthday Gameshow: Starting soonDeviantART Birthday Gameshow is starting in just FIFTEEN MINUTES!
We're looking for game players to come and join in our deviantART Birthday Event! In just a short while ^3wyl and myself are hosting an interpretation of a British game show called Pointless. The idea of the game is that you have to guess the least popular answer to a multiple answers question. You will be awarded points accordingly, those with the most points will win - but you will have used pointless answers to get there!
We'll have pre-judged the least popular and most popular answers by asking a panel of CVs beforehand for their responses. Want an example?
Name a Film Starring Tom Cruise
Okay so Mission Impossible is a really high answer and if you said that one, you'd get lots of points. Which isn't good! If you said Rain Man - you'd possibly be getting less points. But if you said something like Endless Love or Taps, then you'd be hitting on an answer tha

I'd like to take a moment to issue a very important "THANK YOU" to YOU! The deviantART Community. On the heels of our 12th Birthday, I've looked back at the projects that my team have undertaken and realized that in the last year, especially, the deviantART community has stepped up and helped to make projects like %projecteducate and %ArtHistoryProject successful. Without your contributions, interest, faves, feedback and participation, projects like these would go no where. I'm looking forward to more community interaction and participation projects and am always open to your feedback regarding projects or endeavors you'd li
Welcome to the 2012 dASAW! [Updated]Welcome to the 2012 deviantART Staff Appreciation Week!
Hello everyone, and welcome to our second annual deviantART Staff Appreciation Week! We hope that you're as excited as we are to kick off a 7-day-long celebration of deviantART and the people who make it run smoothly for us!
For this week of contests, projects, love, points, prizes, more love, and devious shenanigans, our team of volunteers has worked very hard to organize many ways of telling the staff of deviantART, rather simply, "THANK YOU!"
So, without further ado, let's take a look at our schedule of events! If you are interested in seeing what's happening during the dASAW, you can refer to this journal! We will link to all of our pertinent news articles and post the dates of our contests and projects here!
Don't forget to wish the deviantART staff a happy dASAW! :iconeeeeeplz:

The Pixel Art CommunityWelcome to Pixel Art’s PE week! Firstly, I’d like to begin by discussing where we are in the Pixel Art community, where we came from and where we might head in the future.
Why discuss the definition of Pixel Art?
Why is it so important to discuss the definition of Pixel Art? It becomes important not only when it comes time to update the category’s description for the sake of organisation and clarity, but also when confusion and misconceptions become increasingly common among those in the community itself. As Pixel Art grew from being primarily used for old computer and gaming systems, that could not handle much data and therefore not too many colours per palette, into something used with more contemporary technologies like Photoshop and MSPaint, Pixel Art itself was bound to reflect those changes. This change has become apparent in new styles, new techniques and questions around the need for the “old rules” of past
PE Interview with DD Suggester Minato-KushinaAs part of Daily Deviations PE week we have interviewed the lovely `Minato-Kushina who has been suggesting DDs since November 2010. She has since then had over 500 suggestions accepted and as a result of her regular suggestions, made her name known on the DD page.
What first got you interested in wanting to suggest DDs?
I don't really remember the exact point when I started paying attention to DDs. I guess, I saw these beautiful pictures at the bottom of my page. Gradually, I understood that they were a kind of "award" for outstanding pieces. I was also wondering how some people could suggest DDs! By searching here and there, I found the way.
I eventually decided to send my first suggestion to ^rydi1689, the then Fan Art Gallery Moderator. She is so kind, she accepted it immediately! This encouraged me to suggest more and eventually to love this task. I am generally shy with others. So this gesture, although it may seemed normal to her, it was
Welcome to Daily Deviations PE WeekWelcome to Daily Deviations week!
Over the course of this week we'll celebrate the positive side of DDs and discuss the negatives, allay some fears, and address some myths in the hopes that all members of dA will have a better understanding of how and why DDs are featured. We hope that everyone will enjoy what we have prepared for you all as we tried to incorporate the feedback you have so generously given us as we prepared for this week. We hope that we will address your concerns, but feel free to ask questions at any time!

Project Educate: Looking for Deviants!Hi!
Just a quick journal to say that we're looking for deviants from the community who would be up for participating in a September Community Week . Last few of these have been incredibly successful with community members writing educational and informative articles through our %projecteducate group, featuring other artists, exposing underappreciated artists, giving tutorials on deviantART features and functions and holding contests. Send me a note if you'd like to do any or all of the above!
CrossroadsShe's at a crossroad again.
If she recalled correctly, then this was the fourth time in her entire life. She tentatively places a foot forward, on to the cool glass. Decisions were never my strong point, she thinks. Knowing that this could take anywhere between an hour to a few days, she takes off the bulky coat, spreading it out before taking a seat in the middle of the cross-section. There weren't going to be any passer-bys after all.
Wait. I've...I've never looked back.
The thought crosses her mind for less than a second, but it clutches onto the messy vines inside her head and before she can stop herself, she's turning her head around looking over her shoulder and gazing into the mist-filled street. It's murky, grey, dark, and filled with heavy rain.
Why have I never looked back?
She doesn't know if that's really a question, or if it's something she's asking herself, but she definitely finds the confusion that comes with the thought loathsome, at best. Deciding
