Project Educate: An Interview with *naked-in-the-rain

*naked-in-the-rain has one of those galleries that is just bursting with colour and life. From APN to Still Life she covers it all in a vibrant and creative way
If you could bring one deceased legendary artist back to the current time, who would it be and why them?

It’s hard to pick only one character to reunite all the creative minds I’d like to see in current time. First person that comes to my mind is Salvador Dalí – simply ‘cos he was different and original, and the effect of his art will be present for many years in the future.
Who or what inspired you to take on the art form that you focus in?

Simple thing inspire me the most, finding beauty in everyday objects - making them special. Creating an interesting image is a challenge. There are so many creative minds out there, and you just have to be very inspired and gifted to get under the spotlight for a moment. I’ve got so many ideas, but the lack of spare time doesn’t let me present them.
We all have bad days – when we believe that our work is not good enough, what would you suggest is the best way to overcome these and keep creating?
Sometimes you’re in a bad mood and you push yourself to make something good, and it makes you even more frustrated. I suggest doing something else, taking a break, listening to some nice music, going outside, and having “an observing” day. Art is all about expressing yourself, so take a break if you find it hard to deal with it. I strongly recommend having a pen and a notebook near your bed, ‘cos most of the best ideas come at night. If you don’t write it down, you may forget. It happened to me a few times
Do you feel that art is an isolating hobby in itself or not?

I think life is art. It comes in many forms and you can never isolate it from other things. Art isn’t only a drawing/photo/sculpture, it’s a story behind what we make too.
You have been selected to go on all expense paid holiday for three days with historical figures, an artist, a writer and one free choice. Who would you take?
When it comes to writers, I’d choose Leo Tolstoy or Alexander Pushkin, because I like Russian literature; artist -Michelangelo (di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni), and scientist Nikola Tesla.
What is your biggest challenge personally in creating your work?

The biggest challenge for me is to create something that people would like on different levels – something striking and original from a simple idea. I personally don’t like over photo shopped images, even though I admire artists who have great skills to edit their works in Photoshop.
What new art techniques have you discovered this year?
I’ve discovered conceptual art this year and using natural light and colors in close up compositions. Usually I was into human close up and underwater still life photography, but I want to expand my views and try to create something new now. Maybe more portraiture photography.
When are you most creative and why? Time of day/week/season e.t.c

I’m most creative when I’m alone. Sometimes you need time and space to make your ideas come true, especially if it involves a “mess”. My mum was always complaining about me taking photos that involved water, so I decided to make those when I’m home alone
Sadness and stress can inspire you. Being emotional and being able to feel things around you can really enhance your creativeness. When I have to study for my exam, I usually get the greatest ideas. Ironic, but true.
Let me just say that good ideas come at night, but the best light (for taking photos) is in the morning.
Are you professionally trained in art – have you been to college or Uni to study it?
I am not professionally trained. I’ve always been interested in art, though. When I was seven years old I wrote my first poem, and that was the first time I got in touch with art. At the age of twelve I started writing a book, but I never got to publish it, ‘cos I out grew the concept of that novel. At the age of 17, I finally found photography as my deep passion. I’m 24 now, and I believe it will always be a part of me. I always do want to improve, so when I finish my studies I might take classes and focus myself on improving my photography skills.
Finally, Describe an insecurity you deal with in making art.

I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to making art. No matter what people around say to me, I think I can always do better and I am never completely satisfied. Insecurity you deal with in making something can block you, but it can also push you forward and make you a better artist. If all the great achievers were aware that their works were the best they wouldn’t be legends now. I think modesty is one of the keys of developing yourself in the area you’re interested in. Artists evolve, just like humanity.
Thank you!
