I did I waited for months dreaming of getting a DD, then one day I realized that if I wanted something to happen I had to make it happen myself. So I suggested one of my tutorials and I got a DD for it after that I got three more DD suggested by other people.
I think a DD is sadly not always about how good you are, but about how popular you are. Not everyone knows how to suggest a DD, then of those that know few people actually suggest DDs regularly, so it takes a lot of views, watchers and luck to get that first DD. I found that suggesting myself gave me that initial boost of exposure I needed, so I'm glad I did. I think there's nothing wrong with it, you're not featuring yourself, you're merely suggesting yourself for someone else's consideration.
i've always been thankful for the journal features i've gotten, i can't imagine suggesting myself for DD. i can understand why some people would, but i have a problem with some of the DD's picked simply bc of quality; how could i ever suggest my own work when i only have a point and shoot and there's soooo much better, more deserving pieces out there? lol

I did it on my old account for a photograph of one of my models, formerly titled "Abduction" and now "Nostalgia" in my new gallery, and it was successful. Since then I haven't been successful in suggesting any of my own work nor of anyone else but once, and so I gave up on it. I might try again in the future when I'm more confident in my skills whether it's my own photography or judging another's.
Even if I am often suggesting DDs, especially traditional works, I could never suggest one of mine. The works that I suggest are not even close to the ones I make, and I could never be so satisfied with mine as to think they might deserve a DD.
